Delaware County Libraries Celebrates 35th Anniversary

At our bimonthly directors meeting on December 15, 2016 we were joined by Delaware County Councilman Dave White, Delco DA Jack Whelan, Executive Director Marianne Grace, the Ridley Township Board of Commissioners, and the directors of the 26 member libraries across the county to recognize Delaware County Libraries 35th Anniversary that took place over the past year. Founded in 1981, we were originally known as the Delaware County Library System until a recent rebranding in early 2016 that included a new logo, website, and name–Delaware County Libraries (DCL).

As of October 2016 there are over 287,000 card-carrying library members in Delaware County. DCL has made many strides over the past 35 years to promote and encourage literacy in Delaware County. Just a few of our many accomplishments over the past 35 years include beginning a van delivery service in 1982 to share reading inventory among the 26 libraries, launching their website in 1996, offering a live homework tutoring website in 2008, lending eBooks and Audio Books in 2010 and launching StoryWalk, an interactive reading experience in Rose Tree Park in 2016.

Thank you to Delaware County Council for always being supportive of the libraries in the county, and to our over 287,000 library card holders!
