Description:

Join us as Joseph Erdeljac leads us in listening to and explaining La Boheme and La Rondine by Puccini

If you are new to Opera this is a great way to be introduced to this thrilling musical world.

Session 1 - September 5 & 12.   LA BOHEME by Puccini. with luciano Pavarotti, Mirella Freni, Rolando Panerai, Elizabeth Harwood, Nicolai Ghiaurov and Gianni Maffeo.  This is one of Puccini's best loved and most performed operas.  It is the story of love and tragedy set in Paris among the Bohemian populace.

Session 2 - October 10 & 17.  LA RONDINE by Puccini, with Kiri Te Kanawa, Placido Domingo, Mariana Nicolesco, David Rendall, Leo Nucci, Lillian Watson and Gillian Knight.  This is the opera that was originally meant to be a musical but was expanded into a full length opera.  It is a love story and is a reworking of the Boheme plot but with a different outcome and in  different level of society.  It was not a favorite for a long time and only more recently has it found a more secure place in the repertory.

These two sort of make "book ends" for Puccini's plot of love and disaster.  Both contain some of Puccini's most beautiful melodies.
