Grant Helps Delaware County Libraries Launch 1000 Books Before Kindergarten

The Library Foundation of Delaware County is pleased to announce that Rotary District 7450 and the Rotary Clubs of Chester, Glen Mills, and Media have awarded them an early literacy grant that will allow Delaware County Libraries to provide free books to 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten participants across the County. 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is a nationally recognized program that encourages parents and caregivers of preschoolers to read regularly with their children in order to develop the early literacy skills that are essential for school success.

A previous Rotary grant helped the Delaware County Libraries purchase and create one hundred 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten backpacks for County-wide circulation.  The backpacks are filled with a mix of 10 classic and new picture books and board books along with early literacy tips.  Anyone can check out the backpacks by visiting www.delcolibraries.org and searching 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten.

Numerous libraries will be holding kick-off and early literacy events to promote their 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten programs. For full details please click here.
